Union College first-year pitcher Jessie Rooney had an excellent start to her collegiate career, striking out 27 batters in 19.0 innings while allowing three earned runs over four appearances. Rooney struck out nine batters in seven innings and gave up three earned runs in her first collegiate start on Saturday against Chicago. On Sunday she did not allow a run and struck out 15 batters in 11 innings of work to earn the victory in both games, striking out 10 in four innings of one-hit relief against Manchester and following up with a two-hit shutout of Colby. Batters facing Rooney had a .155 batting average last week.
