Senior Meghan Matheny secured the 50th individual national championship in school history with her performance in the pole vault on Friday at the JDL Fast Track. Matheny, the 2021 outdoor national champion and now three-time All-American, entered the competition at 3.55 meters and cleared with ease. Matheny then surpassed the next five heights, 3.70 to 3.90 meters, on her first run to keep pressure on the field. By 3.80 meters, the field dwindled down to six entries and two more dropped out after 3.85. Two more competitors could not clear 3.90 meters, which set up a one-on-one matchup with Sarah Voit of Oberlin heading to 3.95 meters. Both Matheny and Voit cleared 3.95 on their first attempts, but Matheny maintained the edge in total attempts (7-to-10). The competition came to a close as neither Matheny or Voit could clear 4.00, but the Ithaca, N.Y. native would claim her second national title.
