In Rensselaer's season opener, senior goalie Brian Doughty made 13 saves on 17 shots faced with one ground ball to backstop a 14-5 win over Skidmore in Troy. He had two saves in the first quarter and four in the second as RPI built an 8-0 halftime lead that eventually grew to 12-1. He added three stops in the third quarter and four in the fourth before being removed from the game with the Engineers ahead by 10 goals (14-4).
