At the multi-divisional Middlebury Invitational, RPI first-year athlete Luke Lyons recorded victories in the two events in which he was entered. Lyons won at 500 meters with a time of 1:07.03, which was more than .20 in front of the runner-up in the eight-person event. He later ran the first leg of the victorious 4x400-meter relay team that posted a time of 3:26.80, which was almost four seconds ahead of the second place squad's (St. Lawrence) 3:30.60. As a team, Rensselaer won the nine-school meet with 173.50 points, which was more than 20 points ahead of second place Middlebury (151).
