Fields went 2-0 in singles and in doubles play as the Statesmen tennis team picked up wins over St. Lawrence and NYU over the weekend. In a 9-0 sweep of St. Lawrence on Saturday, Fields paired up with junior Bruce Grant for an 8-4 win at the top doubles spot, and then secured a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles. On Sunday in a 5-4 triumph over NYU, who is ranked No. 14 in the Northeast Region, Fields and Grant earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. Then with the match tied up at 4-4, Fields won the deciding singles match at No. 6 against the Violets. Fields lost his first set 6-4, and then was down in the second set 5-4, 40-15 with his opponent serving for the match. Fields fought his way back to even the set score at 5-5 and then held his serve and broke his opponent to win the set 7-5. He cruised to a 6-1 win in the third set to secure the victory for Hobart. Fields is now 11-2 in singles and 6-3 in doubles with Grant this season.
