University of Rochester first-year athlete Dokata Kosi Banchale broke the 400-meter school record in his first collegiate outdoor track and field race, running a time of 48.27 seconds at the NC State Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday. Banchale finished in 12th place among 68 runners nearly all of whom were Division I or II athletes. Banchale’s time ranked first in Division III at the time he completed and is currently second in the nation. Banchale also competed on two relays for UR in North Carolina, running on the 4x200 meter relay which finished 7th in 1:28.44 (school record) and the 4x400 meter relay which posted a time of 3:17.63 which was seventh in the race and currently second in NCAA Division III.
