In the Liberty League Men's Tennis Championship, RPI freshman Clay Thompson won three matches without losing any to help the Engineers to their first tournament title and the program's first-ever NCAA championship bid. Playing No. 3 doubles, he and classmate Brian Niguidula beat a duo from Hobart, 8-3, in the semifinals before defeating a tandem from Skidmore, 8-2, in the final. In singles, Clay played No. 3 and helped Rensselaer defeat the Statesmen, 5-1, with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Against the Throroughbreds, who RPI beat 5-2, he was tied in his match, 2-6, 6-2, 3-3, when it ended.
