The Hobart College rowing team opened up its 2017-18 season at the 53rd Head of the Charles Regatta last weekend. The Statesmen finished 12th out of 37 teams in the men's collegiate eight event. Hobart's top boat traversed the 3-mile Charles River course in a time of 14:51.677. The University of Virginia Varsity Eight won the event, stopping the clock with a time of 14:24.211. St. Joseph's and Bates rounded out the podium. The Statesmen, who qualify for next year's regatta by virtue of finishing in the top half of the field, were 12th at all four check points. Hobart's varsity eight was powered by sophomore Greg Narzikul, sophomore Martin Roeck, senior Sam Ash, senior Harrison Luce, sophomore John Schenk, sophomore Patrick Overton, senior Ben Robinson, senior Dilan Bower, and sophomore Alberto Wray.
