Vassar College freshman attack Michael Mullen had a strong collegiate debut, registering four points on two goals and a pair of assists to help Vassar to a 6-5 season-opening win at Drew on Saturday. The freshman scored the Brewers' first goal of the season, finding the back of the net with about five minutes remaining in the first quarter, thanks to a pass from Sam Houston-Read. Less than 20 seconds later, Mullen found fellow freshman Matthew Lowery for another score, 2-0. Mullen also picked up a pair of points in the second stanza, assisting on a goal at the 6:59 mark before finding the back of the net himself about three minutes later to give the Brewers their largest lead of the contest, 6-1.
