In the season-opening meet at Utica, RPI freshman Dale Kelly had a second-place finish and a victory in the two events in which he competed. Kelly was second of 36 in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.75 and he helped the 4x400 relay team defeat all 13 other squads, finishing in 3:26.22. Kelly ran the third leg. As a team, the Engineers were second of the six competing schools.
