RIT senior Hailey Burkhart finished second out of 19 competitors throughout Division I, II, and III in the heptathlon at the Mondschein Multi-Event Meet, hosted by Kutztown University on Thursday and Friday, April 14-15.
Burkhart finished with 4,189 points, just 88 points behind Kristen Belko of Division II Clairon, and 55 points ahead of Arianna Camel of Division II Millersville. Burkhart finished as the top Division III heptathlete and her score of 4,189 is the ninth-best in all of Division III this season.
After solid performances in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump, Burkhart finished first in the shot put, with a winning toss of 10.84 meters. A second-place finish in the 200-meter event put Burkhart in third place after day one, with 2,652 points, behind Camel and Belko.
In day two, Burkhart inched closer to Camel and Belko, earning 525 crucial points after a first-place finish in the javelin throw, with a throw of 32.56 meters. She picked up 606 points in the final event, the 800-meter race, passing Camel and settling into second place.
