RPI senior Alain Grullon Gonzalez and sophomore Tristan Wise opened the season by combining to win the A flight doubles tournament at the multi-divisional Stony Brook Invitational. They defeated an opponent from the host Seawolves in the first round (6-2), advanced through the quarterfinals when their opponents from Villanova defaulted (score was 2-2), beat a tandem from Stony Brook in the semifinals (6-4) and another twosome from SBU in the finals (7-6).
