Union junior Andrew Welch earned three honorable mention All-America honors last week at the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis. Welch started the week by helping the 200 medley of senior Zack Wahl, sophomore Benjamin Nadareski and freshman John Enquist finish 15th with a time of 1:32.71. By placing in the top 16 the squad became the first Dutchmen since 2012 diver Ian Drillinger to earn All American honors. The last swimmer to earn All American honors was Steven Schapp in 2010. The next day Welch led the 400 medley relay squad to a 16th place finish with a time of 323.85. Welch earned the Dutchmen's highest event win of the championships after finishing .36 seconds ahead of his qualifying time to take home 11th place in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 49.11. Welch closed out the championships by finishing 23rd in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 1:49.97 during Saturday morning's qualifying heat. He broke the previous program record of 1:50.53 that was set in 2008 by Kevin Kewin.
