The Hobart varsity eight won a gold medal at the New York State Championships over the weekend. It's the first time the Statesmen have captured gold in the V8 at states since 1996. Hobart earned a spot in Sunday's grand final by winning its Saturday heat with a time of 6:23.12, 12.1 seconds faster than second place Army. In the grand final, the Statesmen held off runner-up Ithaca, posting a winning time of 5:59.9, 1.59 seconds better than the Bombers. Jessica Dinan, Brett Lawhon, August Wherry, Robert McNamara, Milos Milosavljevic, W. Hunter Holtz, Rob Nanovsky, Owen Monahan, and Davis Muller powered Hobart to victory and helped the Statesmen to a second place finish in the team standings, the highest finish of any Liberty League team.
