University of Rochester first-year Sam Mermelstein competed in two events at last week's AARTFC and helped the Yellowjackets secure their first-ever team title at the regional event. The rookie competed individually in the 5,000 meters, crossing the finish in 18:19.12 and placed 19th among 37 runners. She later was part of Rochester's fourth-place 4x800 meter relay finish. In the 4x800, the team finished in 9:38.17, in the Yellowjackets' final event of the regional. As a team, Rochester ended with 70 points, more than 20 points ahead of the runner-up institution.
