William Smith's Second Varsity 8+ finished second in a 14-boat field at the New York State Championships on Saturday. The 2V8 was powered by Michaela Greco, Olivia Helms, Lily Liflander, Alessandra Gialanella, Paige Barnhart, Ainsley Kimball, Mariee Voss, Alayna Wian and Olivia Sainsbury. They won their moring heat, traversing the 2,000-meter Fish Creek Course with a time of 7:24.502. They beat University of Albany, the University of Rochester and Army to secure a spot in the Grand Final. Later in the afternoon , the Herons' 2V competed against Marist, Colgate, Albany, Hamilton and Smith. The Herons put up a strong fight, competing with the Red Foxes to the end. William Smith crossed the line with a time of 7:42.897, just five seconds behind Division I Marist.
