Vassar College sophomore Haley Schoenegge became the first student-athlete in school history to win two national championships in a career as she took home her second overall and first indoor national title in the mile with a time of 4:47.04 at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Nazareth University. Schoenegge also closed the championship with Second Team All-American honors in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:46.83.
Schoenegge took home her second career national championship and her first indoor national title as she posted a career-best time of 4:47.04 and now holds the 11th-fastest mile time in Division III history. She also set the Nazareth University facility record with her time while outpaced the next finisher by almost two seconds and turning in a final 200 meters split of 33.64.
Schoenegge, who held the top seed time in the mile in 2024-25, was victorious in the second heat of prelims with a time of 4:53.82 to punch her ticket into the final. The sophomore led from start to finish in the second heat and recorded a time that would have top the facility record of 4:55.72.
