Union College first-year player Vivaan Gupta had a successful week for the Garnet Chargers, posting a combined record of 7-1 with five doubles victories and two singles wins. At the Garnet Charger Invitational, Gupta won two matches to reach the finals of the “B” Singles bracket, defeating Dikshan Chhikara of Drew, 6-4, 6-2, and St. Lawrence's John Hill-Edgar by a 6-4, 6-0 score. He took the first set from teammate Ben Jacobs in the final before coming up three points short in a third-set supertiebreaker. He also teamed with Ian Schunk to go 4-0 on the way to the “B” Doubles title, dropping only three combined games in wins over a Drew pair and two St. Lawrence tandems. The team's hardest match came against teammates Shreyas Kode and Arhan Gupta in the semifinals, posting an 8-5 win. Gupta also was part of a 6-0 third-doubles win alongside Schunk in Union's conference opener against Bard on Wednesday.
