William Smith College first-year setter Delainy Williams led the Herons to a 3-0 opening weekend in the William Smith Tournament with sweeps of SUNY Oswego, Clark (Mass.), and SUNY Geneseo. For her performances, Williams was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Through nine sets, Williams averaged 11.44 assists per set, 0.89 kill and aces per set, 2.00 digs per set, and 1.78 points per set. In the season-opening sweep of the Lakers, Williams ran an impressive offense tallying 34 assists and two kills (.400). She added 30 assists and four kills (.800) in a three set win over Clark and 39 assists and two kills against Geneseo. She led the Herons to 140 total kills as a team, hitting .307 and played a major role into William Smith's defense that only allowed 64 kills, keeping their opponents hitting percentage to .086. Williams leads the Liberty League in assists per set (11.44) and is sixth in the conference in aces per set (0.78).
