2015-16 All-Liberty League Women's Basketball
The Liberty League has announced its 2015-16 All-League awards for women's basketball as voted by league coaches. The major award winners and all-league teams are listed below.
CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Kelly Donnelly, So., G, Skidmore College
Skidmore College sophomore Kelly Donnelly shared Liberty League Player of the Year honors after averaging a league-best 18.3 points along with 10.4 rebounds per game. Donnelly, who had 12 double-doubles on the season, also led the Thoroughbreds with 20 blocked shots and 51 steals while ranking third on the team with 37 assists. She ranked third in the Liberty League in rebounding, first in field goal percentage, fourth in steals and eighth in blocked shots while earning Liberty League Performer of the Week honors twice and weekly honor roll recognition on seven occasions.
CO-PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Ashley Loggins, Sr., F, Clarkson University
Clarkson University senior forward Ashley Loggins shared Liberty League Player of the Year honors after finishing second in the league in both scoring (17.2 points per game) and rebounding (10.7 per game). Loggins, who earned Liberty League Performer of the Week honors twice along with six weekly honor roll selections, also led the league in steals with 4.1 per game. Her 112 steals are a Clarkson single-season record. Loggins scored in double-figures in 14 of 16 Liberty League regular-season games, including five 20-point games, and had 10 double-doubles in league play. She had a game-high 26 points in the Liberty League championship game victory over RIT.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Stephanie Grobe, Jr., G, Clarkson University
Clarkson University junior guard Stephanie Grobe shared Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year honors. Charged with guarding the opposing team's top scorer, Grobe used her long wingspan to limit shot opportunities for opposing players. While her value to the Golden Knights' defense did not necessarily translate into statistics, Grobe compiled 93 rebounds along with 34 steals and 12 blocked shots.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Erin Lyons, Jr., F, Union College
Union College junior forward Erin Lyons shared Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year honors. Lyons, the top defender for the Dutchwomen, led Union in blocked shots, steals and offensive rebounds while ranking second on the team in total rebounds. Lyons had three games with a career-best 10 rebounds and also collected a career-high seven steals in a non-league game against Utica. She also had four games with two or more blocked shots, including three blocks at William Smith.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR: Tara Lynch, Fr., F, Rochester Institute of Technology
RIT freshman forward Tara Lynch was selected as the Liberty League Rookie of the Year after averaging 14.7 points and 6.3 rebounds while helping the Tigers to a program-record 20 wins. Lynch was the top scorer in the Liberty League among first-year players, ranking eighth. Lynch, who was a six-time selection as the league's Rookie of the Week, also ranked second in field goal percentage (.507) and 13th in rebounding. She scored in double figures in 21 games with five games of 20 or more points.
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR: Rochester Institute of Technology – Amy Reed, Head Coach
RIT eighth-year head coach Amy Reed and her staff earned Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year honors. Reed, who is assisted by Ralph Damerell and Mike Maiorano, led RIT to a program-record 20 wins (20-7) and a berth in the Liberty League championship game. The 20 wins are an eight-win improvement over the previous season. The Tigers also compiled a program-record eight-game winning streak, which came in Liberty League play. The team's second-place finish and 12 wins in league play are also the best for RIT in five years as a Liberty League member. RIT earned a regional ranking as well as its first-ever national ranking (No. 23).
