2014 Liberty League Men’s Tennis Awards
Player of the Year: Oliver Loutsenko, Sr., Skidmore
A four-time All-Liberty League selection in singles, Skidmore senior Oliver Loutsenko compiled an overall record of 15-2 in singles, including a 7-1 mark at number one. He also paired with teammate Danny Knight for a 21-6 overall record in doubles, going 14-4 at number one. He was selected as the conference's Performer of the Week five times this season and currently ranks third in the Northeast region in singles, while he and Knight are fourth in the region in doubles. Loutsenko captured the USTA/ITA Northeast singles and doubles championships and placed third at the USTA/ITA Small College National championships in singles and sixth in doubles. He was also selected to represent the Thoroughbreds at the 2014 NCAA Division III individual championships in singles and doubles.
Co-Rookie of the Year: McKinley Grimes, Fr., RPI
RPI freshman McKinley Grimes helped the Engineers to a second-place finish and the No. 2 seed in the Liberty League tournament in 2013-14. Playing at No. 4 and 5 singles, Grimes compiled and overall record of 10-5. The four-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Grimes was 8-4 at No. 4, including 6-3 in spring after moving up from the 5 spot after posting a 2-1 record in the fall. At one point in the 2013-14 season, Grimes reeled off six victories in seven matches. In addition to his singles competitions, Grimes also posted a 13-5 overall doubles record. Playing alongside fellow freshman Matt LaBarre, the doubles tandem went 12-3 in spring including a 6-match win streak.
Co-Rookie of the Year: Nick Litsky, Fr., Vassar
Vassar freshman Nick Litsky finished his inaugural year with a singles record of 13-9 and a doubles mark of 11-9. He was 7-3 against Liberty League opponents in 2013-14 in singles. Litsky made his debut with a strong showing at the ITA Northeast Regionals where he advanced to the third round before falling to Liberty League Player of the Year, Oliver Loutsenko of Skidmore College. Litsky then won seven of his next 10 matches including two wins over players from nationally-ranked teams. Litsky played nearly the entire season at No. 2 singles, posting a 10-6, 5-1 Liberty League record. He played in all three positions in doubles with a perfect 3-0 stay at No. 3 and recorded a 5-7 mark at No. 2.
Coaching Staff of the Year: Skidmore – Nate Simms, Head Coach
Head coach Nate Simms and his staff helped guide Skidmore to its seventh Liberty League championship and a national ranking as high as 20th in 2013-14. Skidmore was forced to overcome a series of injuries thought the season, advancing to NCAA tournament for a seventh consecutive year. In addition to winning the league, the Thoroughbreds also knocked off defending national champion Williams College 5-4 on April 19. Skidmore advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III Championship.
