Liberty League announces 2017 Men's Tennis award recipients

2016-17 Liberty League Men’s Tennis Awards
 
Player of the Year: Kai Yuen Leung, Sr., Skidmore College

Skidmore College senior Kai Yuen Leung was selected as the Liberty League Player of the Year for the third straight year. A unanimous selection, Leung currently owns a 26-5 record in singles play, including 12-3 in dual matches and a perfect 7-0 record in Liberty League dual matches. He won a second consecutive ITA Northeast Region singles championship in the fall and qualified for the ITA Small College National Championship tournament, earning All-America honors for the third straight year. Leung is currently the third-ranked player in the ITA Northeast Region in singles play and is also ranked fourth in doubles along with partner John Wynne. Leung will participate in the NCAA Division III Tennis individual singles and doubles championships in Chattanooga, Tenn.

Rookie of the Year: Alan Dubrovsky, Fr., Hobart College

Hobart College first-year student Alan Dubrovsky was selected as Liberty League Rookie of the Year, becoming the second straight Statesman to earn that honor, joining his teammate and doubles partner Jonah Salita who won the award in 2016. Dubrovsky compiled an overall singles record of 19-5, including 15-3 in dual matches and 6-0 in the Liberty League. He began the season at third singles before moving up to the second position during the second half of the season. A six-time Liberty League rookie of the week selection during the 2016-17 year, Dubrovsky also compiled an 8-5 record at first doubles (4-2 Liberty League) while teaming with Salita.

Coaching Staff of the Year: Hobart College – Tim Riskie, Head Coach

Hobart College continued its ascension up the Liberty League standings in 2016-17, finishing second during the regular season with a 6-1 record. Head coach Tim Riskie guided the Statesmen to a 15-5 overall record, which included an eight-match winning streak to secure the No. 2 seed in the Liberty League tournament. Hobart defeated third-seeded RPI 5-2 in the Liberty League semifinals before falling to top-seeded Skidmore in the championship match. Riskie is assisted by Dave Dewey.
