Liberty League takes three major awards; 7 named to ECAC Division III Upstate All-Star Teams

The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2015 ECAC Division III Upstate Men's Soccer All-Star teams. Seven Liberty League student-athletes from five different conference schools were honored, which included Defensive Player of the Year St. Lawrence goalkeeper Ryan Roethel and freshman teammate Sidi Abdoulaye, the 2015 Rookie of the Year. Bard College head coach Andy McCabe was also selected as Coach of the Year.
 
Roethel helped the Saints to their third consecutive regular season and tournament Liberty League titles by posting 12 shutouts through the regular season and league tournament. On the year, he compiled a 16-4-2 record after starting 22 games for the Saints. He finished the season with a league-leading .44 goals against average and .853 save percentage.
 
Dede had a breakout season in his rookie campaign for the Saints. He posted nine points on four goals and an assists, with two game-winning goals on the books. In addition to being the Liberty League’s Rookie of the Year, the midfielder was also the only freshman selected as First Team All-League honoree. 
 
Since taking over as head coach in 2013 for Bard College, McCabe has completely revitalized the Raptors men's soccer program. Bard's scoring margin in Liberty League play was -4.0 goals per game in McCabe's first season, but this year's squad had five one-goal losses, including a double-overtime loss to eventual league champion St. Lawrence. The Raptors also earned a win over tournament finalist Skidmore en route to a seven-win season – the most for the Bard program since joining the Liberty League in 2011.
