How St. Lawrence and Skidmore reached the Championship
St. Lawrence first-year Charlton Kelly scored the game-winning goal at the 42-minute mark of the first half to help the No. 23 Saints to a 2-1 win over Union in the Liberty League semifinal and advance to the their third straight conference championship. Goalkeeper Ryan Roethel made one stop for the Saints in his 13th win of the season.

Skidmore first-year Ben Poole scored his second game-winning goal in as many games to lift the Thoroughbreds to a 1-0 win at #10 Hobart on Wednesday in the Liberty League semifinal. Ben Caples recorded his eighth assist of the season on the goal, tying him for the league high. In goal, Eli Kisselbach made three saves for his ninth shutout of the season, surpassing his own program single-season shutout record in the process. 

Earlier this Year
St. Lawrence beat Skidmore 1-0 in their previous meeting on October 24 where Jethro Dede's goal in the 60th minute proved to be the difference at Sandy MacAllaster Field. Roethel and Kisselbach both finished the game with five saves apiece. 

Saturday marks the third meeting between Skidmore and St. Lawrence in the Liberty League Championship game. The Saints won the previous two meetings (2013, 2006).

Tournament Preview
Second-seed Hobart comes into the tournament with an overall record of 13-2-2 and a 5-1-2 league record. The Statesmen average 5.00 points per game, thanks to leading scorers Derrick Acheampong (8 G, 1 A), JP White (5 G) and Zach Poretz (3 G, 4 A). Hobart also has 15 players with 2 or more points on the year. Senior Tyler Serafine has made 17 starts in net for the Statesmen this season with eight shutouts on the year. He currently holds a 0.58 goals against average and a 0.804 save percentage. Hobart will put a seven-game win streak on the line in the Liberty League team championship semifinal on Tuesday.

Skidmore claimed the third seed of the 2015 tournament with a 10-5-1 overall mark and a 5-3 conference slate. The Thoroughbreds punched their ticket to the postseason with a 1-0 win against Union to wrap up the regular season and grab the third seed. Skidmore is ranked third in the conference with a team’s goals against average of 0.63 as senior goalkeeper Eli Kisselbach (9-4-1) anchors the defense in net with a 0.48 goals against average and a 0.883 save percentage. He ranks second in both categories among league leaders and he has also produced eight shutouts this season. Augustine Okoye and Kevin Santos lead the team offensively with a combined 11 goals and four assists. Adebare Oyeniyi (3 G, 1 A) and Ben Caples (7 A) are also two of the team’s top scorers with seven points apiece.
The last time Hobart and Skidmore met on October 3rd in Saratoga, the Thoroughbreds came up with the 1-0 overtime win, with a goal from senior Tim Sullivan. Kisselbach made 10 saves in the win and Serafine made two.

St. Lawrence captured their third straight Liberty League regular season title with a 6-2-0 mark in league play. The Saints finished the regular season with a 12-3-2 overall record and currently lead the league in shots per game (8.59). St. Lawrence has also posted a league-low goals against average of 0.28. Goalkeeper Ryan Roethel has made 17 starts for the Saints and he sports a 0.28 goals against average with a .904 save percentage. He currently leads the league in both categories while posting a league-high 12 shutouts on the year. Offensively, the team is led by two rookies—Tapshak Augustine (7 G, 2 A) and Jethro Dede (4 G, 1 A) as well as seniors Ryan Grant (5 G, 1 A) and Dan Hunt (3 G, 3 A). Augustine and Grant have combined for 27 points while Dede and Hunt each have nine points apiece.

Union is the fourth seed in this year’s tournament as they bring a 10-3-4 overall record (3-2-3 Liberty League) up north to Canton on Wednesday. The Dutchmen average 5.18 points per game and have totaled 88 on the year. Carl Faber leads the team with 20 points on 10 goals, and he is among league leaders in shots per game (3rd, 3.24), goals per game (3rd, .588) and points per game (6th, 1.18). Ethan Strauss is second on the team with 13 points on six goals and an assist and Andrew Fontaine is one point behind him at 12 on two goals and a team-high eight assists. Fontaine lead the league with .500 assists per game. John Weitzman (0.74 GAA, 0.85 SP) minds the net for the Dutchmen and boasts a 7-3-4 record. He also has seven shutouts on the year.

The last time the Dutchmen met up with the Saints was in Canton on October 17th where the St. Lawrence offense erupted for an 8-0 victory. Harry Copeland and Jonathan Mendoza led the Saints with two goals apiece. Mendoza also recorded two assists in the win.
