Liberty League announces men's tennis awards
The Liberty League has announced its 2012 All-Conference awards for men's tennis. The major award winners and all-league teams are listed below.
ALL-LIBERTY LEAGUE MEN’S TENNIS
CO-PLAYERS OF THE YEAR:
Andrew Guzick, Jr., Vassar
Guzick went 23-7 in singles (17-5 dual match record at No. 1), 20-3 in doubles (20-3 dual match record at No. 1), earning season-high ITA rankings of No. 3 in singles in the Northeast, and No. 6 nationally and No. 1 in the Northeast in doubles. In the fall.he teamed with Ben Guzick to win the ITA Northeast Regional Championships andfinished sixth at the National Small College Championships, earning NCAA Division IIIAll-America Team status. He had direct wins over nationally ranked opponents Alex Lane (No. 4) ofNo. 4 CMS, Joey Fritz (No. 5) of No. 1 Amherst in singles, and Richard Meyer and Bryan Chow (No.1) of No. 3 Williams in doubles. In Liberty League play, he went 7-1 in singles and 7-1 in doubles.He earned Liberty League Performer of the Week honors nine of 20 weeks.
Oliver Loutsenko, So., Skidmore
Loutsenko has a 17-10 overall record and is 5-1 against Liberty League opponents. He beat nation's
#3 player Adam Putterman of Washington Univ. (6-4, 2-6 (11-9). The soophmore bested Vassar's Andrew Guzick 6-3, 6-3 in Liberty League championship after splitting with him during the regular season. Loutsenko advanced to the USTA/ITA Northeast Regional championship match. He also had an 8-2 record in doubles, 6-0 vs. Liberty League teams.
ROOKIE OF THE YEAR:
Miles Ransom, Fr., Skidmore
Ransom was 19-7 overall and 5-1 against Liberty League opponents. He advanced to USTA/ITA Northeast Regional semifinal, before losing to eventual winner. The freshman lost tight three-set match (7-5, 1-6, 10-8) to #9 Matt Micheli of Williams. Ransom won the C Singles flight at Wallach Invitational that included a 6-2, 6-2 win over Eric Chien of #10 Bowdoin. He beat Joshua Kessler of Vassar 7-6 (7), 6-0 in Libety League Championship match.
COACHING STAFF OF THE YEAR:
Skidmore, Nate Simms, Head Coach
Simms got the 22nd rank Thoroughbreds in the NCAA tournament for the fifth straight season. Skidmore won its second straight Liberty League title and went 11-6 overall and went 8-0 vs. Liberty League teams.
