Skidmore earns Liberty League Men's Tennis Championship with 5-1 win over Vassar

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's tennis team won its second straight Liberty League title with a 5-1 win over Vassar College in Monday's championship match at Hobart College.

The 22nd-ranked Thoroughbreds improve to 10-6 on the season and will look to make their fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance.

Skidmore got out to a 2-1 lead after doubles as the number one doubles team of Jimmy Sherpa and Alec Hoblitzell earned an 8-6 win over Andrew and Ben Guzick, the top-ranked doubles team in the Northeast region. Oliver Loutsenko and Danny Knight paired up for an 8-4 win at second doubles.

In singles, the Thoroughbreds won the first three matches and were leading two others before clinching the win. Knight picked up the first singles win with a 6-2, 6-1 win at fifth singles. Miles Ransom followed with a 7-6 (9-7), 6-0 win at fourth singles. Loutsenko clinched the match when he picked up a 6-3, 6-3 win over Andrew Guzick at first singles.
