RIT men, St. Lawrence women capture Liberty League indoor track and field championships

CANTON, N.Y. – The RIT men and the St. Lawrence University women earned Liberty League indoor track and field titles on Saturday at Newell Field House. The men's championship was the first Liberty League title for RIT, which joined the league this year. St. Lawrence captured its second straight league championship.

RIT finished with 163 team points, narrowly ahead of second-place RPI (157). The Tigers were able to swing the momentum of the meet with great finishes in the 5,000-meter run and weight throw.

In the field events, Marquis Moore won the triple jump with a powerful burst of 13.96 meters and was second in the long jump with a leap of 6.88 meters. Jamie Dorren, who was also third in the triple jump, set a Liberty League record in winning the high jump in a season-best leap of 2.00 meters. That leap is tied for the 12th best in Division III this season.

Mike Haynes was victorious in the shot put with a toss of 14.21 meters. Sprinter Cameron Lee enjoyed a banner day, winning the 60-meter hurdles in a strong time of 8.39 meters, while finishing fourth in the 60-meter dash. In the distance events, Mike Bradley won the 5,000-meters by just over two seconds in 15:25.98.

St. Lawrence's Jarell Roberts (track) along with RIT's Moore (field) were selected as athletes of the meet for their individual performances. Roberts captured both the 60- and 200-meter dash.

On the women's side, St. Lawrence sophomore Hannah Kinsey picked up two individual titles and a relay win, leading the Saints to the title. St. Lawrence finished with 209 points with Liberty League newcomer RIT second with 128, RPI third with 111 and Union fourth with 31.

Kinsey swept the dashes for the second straight year, establishing the Liberty League record in the 60 meters with a win in 8.07 seconds and finishing just .03 of a second off the record in the 200 with a win in 26.56. Other Saint champions on the track were senior Jenna Hulton, who won the mile in 5:08.42, just under three seconds off the Liberty League record, Carly Stine, who won the 400 in 60.51 and McKayla Nuffer, who won the 5000 in 18:38.86. The Saint 4x200 relay team of Samantha Yee, Divya Biswal, Anna Pond and Kinsey also won its race in 1:48.46.

In field event competition, Tori Bean won the triple jump at 11.06 meters, Taylor Washburn won the pole vault with a 3.08 meter mark and Eliza Bell set the Liberty League record in winning the high jump at 1.60 meters.

St. Lawrence's Kinsey (track) and RPI's Ivy Muchuma (field) were selected as athletes of the meet for their strong individual performances.
